Practice Groups

Groups High Level Overview:

Fry Piranha Group – Named after the Fry Piranha which is another name for new Piranha or juvenile Piranha.

This group is for new swimmers to the team and is meant as a temporary group until the new swimmer gets familiar with practices and the basics of competitive swimming.

Should know the basics of the following to move to the next group

Free Kick/including head in water breathing
Free Arms
FreeStyle
Complete a 50 Free

Back Kick
Back Arms
Backstroke
Complete a 50 back

Red Piranha Group – Named after the Red Piranha also known as the Red-Belly Piranha (Pygocentrus nattereri).  

Skills for this group:

All previous group skills plus

Free Kick/including head in water breathing
Free Arms
FreeStyle
Complete a 50 FreeBack KickBack Arms (for 8 and unders 25)
Backstroke
Complete a 50 back (for 8 and unders 25)

Must obtain the following to move up to the next group
Know two strokes (with some clean up this includes basic form and starts)
Learning the other 2 strokes and stream line

Silver Piranha Group – Named after the Silver Piranha (Serrasalmus manueli).

Skills for this group:

All previous group skills plus

Know two strokes (with some clean up this includes basic form and starts)
Learning the other 2 strokes and stream line

Must obtain the following to move up to the next group
Proficient in all 4 strokes (starts, Freestyle flip turns, streamline)
Competitive in 3 strokes  (Be able to compete in these 3 strokes without getting DQ’d on a regular basis)

Gold Piranha Group – Named after the Gold piranha or Ruby-red piranha (Serrasalmus spilopleura aka. S. maculatus).

Skills for this group.

All previous group skills plus

Proficient in all 4 strokes (starts, Freestyle flip turns, streamline)
Competitive in 3 strokes  

Must obtain the following to move up to the next group
Proficient in all 4 strokes/all aspects of competitive swimming
Competitive in 4 strokes 

Orange Piranha Group – Named after The San Francisco Piranha is also called the Blacktail Piranha or the Giant Orange Piranha (Pygocentrus piraya).

Skills for this group.

All previous group skills plus

Proficient in all 4 strokes/all aspects of competitive swimming
Competitive in 4 strokes 

Must keep maintaining all strokes proficiency requirements 
If not competitive when moving up to a new age group, a swimmer will move back to Gold Group until competitive in new age group
